Howard Lake continues to draw new families and is also home to many long-time residents. A classic lake city, plenty of housing and a rich history are some of the things Howard Lake has to offer. Both Howard Lake and Dutch Lake are in close proximity to housing, offering recreation and scenic views all year round.
Approximately 85 percent of the city’s residents live in single-family housing, and 15 percent live in multi-family or townhome units.
There are three developments around the city which are in different phases and offer homeowners diverse types of surroundings to choose from.
Lake Ridge is located north of town and the lake. This development is close to The Greens, Howard Lake’s beautiful golf course. Many houses have been erected in this popular development.
Terning Trails is located northeast of town and is sure to become a unique development.
Dutch Lake Preserve is a managed community located south of town along County Road 6. This development is in the midst of wetlands, open spaces, trails and park-like settings, including a trail system running throughout the community.
Howard Lake boasts two industrial parks, which are located right off of Highway 12, west of town. Businesses in the industrial park include: Innovative Laser, John’s Collision, Archwood Bay Builders, and Triple T Race Products.
The city also has an industrial park on the east side of town. It was developed several years ago by the industries in Howard Lake. Businesses in the east industrial park are: the Pit Stop, Dura Supreme, Casting Creations, and Atlas Anchoring.
Located just 35 miles west of the Twin Cities metro area and 36 miles from St. Cloud, the city is close to many employment centers, lakes, museums, agriculture, county parks, and Lake Maria State Park.
Lake living
Along with a pleasant small-town atmosphere, the city takes pride in its lake. Boaters drive right up to the public access boat landings off Highway 12, and set adrift on this 717-acre lake.
The lake has three boat landings located on the southeast, southwest, and north shores. Fish types found in the lake are black crappie, large mouthbass, bluegill, walleye, and northern pike. In both summer and winter, popular angling tournaments are hosted.
Lions Park has received updates in the last few years and features a dock, boat launch, pavilion, and playground equipment.
Memorial Park is also located near the lake and has undergone a make-over as well in recent years. Home to the Orphans baseball team, this park sees a lot of action.
Metro calling
Several years ago, Howard Lake was added to the Twin Cities calling exchange. This means that metro calls are now considered local and are no longer long distance.
Public Access Channel Television 10
Public Access Channel Television 10 televises events that include local coverage of school and sporting events, broadcasts of live council meetings, taped school board meetings, and rebroadcasts of seven local church services.
